AVL Manufacturing plans to establish a generator-enclosure factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, through its new AVL USA business. The $56 million investment will create the company’s first manufacturing location in the United States. The project concerns equipment used around standby generators, including systems supporting data centre backup power.
Factory and recruitment timetable
Manufacturing Dive reported on 29 May that the planned facility would cover approximately 232,000 square feet. Recruitment is scheduled to begin in June, with opening targeted for September. These dates describe the announced programme; they do not mean the factory has already entered production.
The city identifies the location as 13006 Sam Neely Road in the Steele Creek area. Planned roles include production work, electrical work, service technicians and management. Local and state announcements put the overall employment ambition at more than 325 new jobs.
Support linked to project milestones
North Carolina has announced a performance-based grant of $100,000 from the One North Carolina Fund. That award is tied to 122 jobs within the project and requires the company to meet employment and investment conditions. Payment is not provided upfront, and a matching local grant is also required.
The grant-related employment figure therefore has a different scope from the overall hiring plan. The two figures should not be added together as if they represented separate groups of additional workers. The announcement also distinguishes the commitment to build the operation from the later milestones needed to qualify for public support.
- Investment commitment: $56 million.
- Planned operation: production and assembly of generator enclosures.
- Recruitment and opening: June and September targets respectively.
- Public support: conditional funding rather than an advance payment.
