Rusnano has announced the launch of flexible solar module production in Mordovia. Investment in the plant exceeds 620 million rubles, with annual manufacturing capacity stated at 10 MW of modules, or approximately 100,000 square metres of panels.
Thin-film modules for buildings
Interfax reported the announcement on 16 April 2025, following the company's launch statement a day earlier. The plant uses vacuum deposition of copper indium gallium selenide, known as CIGS, to manufacture photovoltaic products. Alternative energy system integrators are identified as the principal intended customers.
The production capacity measures the rated electrical power of the modules manufactured over a year. It does not describe the amount of electricity that installed panels would generate: that depends on their location, orientation and operating conditions. Panel area provides a second way to describe the scale of the factory's annual output.
- Project investment: more than 620 million rubles.
- Production technology: CIGS thin-film vacuum deposition.
- Annual module capacity: 10 MW.
- Target customers: integrators of alternative energy systems.
Intended applications and company claims
Rusnano describes the flexible modules as lighter and thinner than conventional products incorporating glass. It presents roofs and façades as potential installation locations, including buildings where additional equipment weight is a constraint. The company also reports advantages under partial shading and diffuse light.
These are the manufacturer's descriptions of the technology. They do not provide a site-specific structural assessment or an independently verified comparison of every competing panel. For a proposed installation, customers would still need to evaluate the building and the complete system design.
According to Rusnano, the plant has a modular layout that could support similar facilities in other regions. The group also says Russian supply chains for production materials and components have been established and are being developed. Those statements describe the company's production strategy.
Project operator and enquiries
The company statement identifies SteelSun as the module brand and Sunlight as the project operator. Solartek is named as the principal technical partner. Rusnano presents the project as a way to develop building-integrated photovoltaics and small-scale generation.
Interested organisations can direct general enquiries to Rusnano and request the relevant product and project information. The announced factory capacity does not establish an order price, installation schedule or guaranteed electricity saving for a particular building; those require separate technical and commercial assessment.
