Arabika has revised the construction timetable for its coffee factory in Koledino, in the Podolsk urban district of Russia. The first stage is now planned for the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Interfax's 19 September report. The previous target was the third quarter. Completion of the whole factory is scheduled for February 2027.

Two milestones, not one opening date

The regional construction supervision authority put overall building readiness at 70%. That figure describes progress on the construction project; it is not a measure of production utilisation. The announcement therefore separates a nearer first-stage target from the later completion of the entire development.

For businesses following the project, the distinction is practical. A construction deadline does not by itself establish when a factory will consistently supply saleable products. Equipment installation, commissioning and commercial deliveries are different milestones. The September announcement should not be read as confirmation that those stages have already been completed.

Production buildings and supporting facilities

A statement from the authority, reproduced by Radio 1, says construction began in August 2023. It describes a first-stage roasting operation designed for 17 tonnes a day and a second production stage rated at 45.7 tonnes a day. These are planned capacities, not reported daily output.

The inspection covered more than the manufacturing buildings. The facilities examined included:

  • the coffee production and roasting buildings;
  • a pumping station and boiler house;
  • wastewater treatment facilities and a transformer substation.

What the next update needs to establish

Supporting infrastructure matters because production equipment cannot be assessed in isolation from its utilities. However, an inspection of those facilities is not the same as confirmation that the whole system is operating. The announced percentage should consequently be kept separate from any estimate of future supply.

The next useful milestones are confirmation that the first stage has been completed and a separate account of its operational status. For prospective buyers, actual product availability would answer a different question from construction progress. Neither the planned daily capacity nor the overall completion date provides a delivery commitment to an individual customer.

The timetable remains a statement of plans as of 19 September 2024. It establishes what the developer and supervision authority expected at that point, rather than a guarantee of subsequent execution.
